Most of the U.S. higher education starts with undergraduate courses. We can earn either a two-year associate's degree or a four-year bachelor's degree. Students often earn an associate's degree first, and then study two more years to gain a bachelor's (or baccalaureate) degree. Usually, a bachelor's degree will be awarded by a university, whereas an associate's degree may be earned either at a community college or university.
According to US Education system, it is been divided into 3 categories. Namely
This type of program will takes four years of undergraduate study to earn a Bachelors degree.
This 4 year undergraduate program consists of:
1st Year is called Freshman Year.
2nd Year is called Sophomore Year.
3rd Year is called Junior Year.
4th Year is called Senior Year.
Students in senior year are also called as "Upperclassmen".
In our Country we call it as Postgraduate education. Whereas in US all master degrees are called as graduate degrees.
Master degree will usually have it in the following fields such as Engineering, Library science, Business Administration or Social work. Mostly of the Masters degree is a 2 year program, but few subjects like journalism, may need just one year.
A Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) usually takes five to seven years to complete. Unlike undergraduates, graduate students begin specialized study from the first day.
These are many specific courses/training programs for professional subjects. Some of them include Printing technology, Orthoptics, fashion and textile technology.
